It was with great regret that Warrington Youth Orchestra announced the death of our Chair, Roy Green, after a short battle with cancer in 2019.
Roy was at the helm of Warrington Youth Orchestra for over twenty years and nobody who met him could fail to be won over by his kind and friendly manner. Always smiling, and usually with a funny tale to tell from his times in the army and the police force, he is greatly missed. Even though his own children had long since grown up and moved on from WYO he remained dedicated to ensuring that other young people in the area would continue to have an opportunity to play in a local and accessible orchestra. Rarely has a tuck shop break ended without the sound of Roy calling ‘Everybody back’. There is no doubt that the sadness of his passing will be felt far and wide; he was a staunch advocate for our ongoing twinning with Hilden Music School, Germany, and had many close friends there. What is for certain, is how incredibly proud Roy was of our young people; but what he may not have realised is how incredibly proud we were of him.
Rest in peace, Roy.
