Orchestras

and

Groups

The Warrington & District Youth Orchestra comprises of three  orchestras, plus smaller groups, catering for players at all levels and on the full range of orchestral instruments.  Progression from one orchestra to the next is by regular auditions.  Vacancies are filled as they arise. There may occasionally be a waiting list for a particular instrument, but where possible new members are accommodated immediately.

Symphony  Orchestra - For the most experienced and advanced players. This orchestra takes part in at least three concerts a year in various venues around Warrington. The orchestra also takes part in occasional foreign tours. Members of the this orchestra will generally have reached at least Associated Board grade 5 standard.

Chamber Orchestra - This orchestra is for intermediate players who have had some experience of orchestra playing but are not yet ready for the Symphony orchestra. This orchestra takes part in at least three concerts a year in various venues around Warrington.  Members of the this orchestra will generally be between Associated Board grade 3 and grade 5 standard.

Junior Orchestra - Is a training orchestra which rehearses both as a complete orchestra and in small ensembles.  The Junior Chamber Orchestra takes part in a number of concerts throughout the year.

Beginners String Group - Warrington and District Youth orchestra is running a course of Saturday morning sessions for complete beginners who would like to learn to play the violin or cello.  There will be instruments available to play and tuition from experienced string tutors.  This is an ideal opportunity for youngsters of any age from primary upwards to find out if they are interested in taking up a musical instrument without an initial major outlay of cash!

When players have attended for six weeks a half membership subscription will be requested. Parents are asked to hire or buy an instrument after a number of months.

The group will have an opportunity to perform at one of the orchestra’s concerts during the year and we hope that members of the group will go on to be members of the Junior Orchestra and later the Chamber and Symphony Orchestras.
