Hilden

Warrington Youth Orchestra has a long and successful association with Musikschule Hilden and has been running an exchange program for many years. Last year a group of young musicians from WYO travelled to Germany, and in October 2017 our friends from Hilden will return the visit.

Our Symphony and Chamber Orchestras will be joined by the Hilden group at a residential music course on Sunday 22nd October 2017 to enjoy music workshops, rehearsals and fun activities. On Tuesday 24th October we will return to Warrington to join host families. There will be a joint concert on Wednesday 25th October – always a highlight of the trip – and our guests will explore the local area during the week before a final celebration on Friday 27th October.

We are very proud of our links with Hilden, and our affection for our friends there grows with each visit. This exchange is one of the real highlights of our year.

It’s always a wonderful opportunity for the children and a great cultural link for Warrington.

Places are held for Symphony in the first instance – make sure that you reply to your letter promptly!

Dear Symphony Member,

This year sees the return of Hilden Music School to Warrington. We have an exciting programme of events to mark their visit which starts with a two-day residential workshop in the beautiful Wildehope Manor, Shropshire.

The coach will depart from Bridgewater High School (Upper Site) at 11:30am Sunday 22nd October 2017. On arrival at Wildehope Manor we will join with Hilden Music School to rehearse together in preparation for the Mayor’s Concert later in the week. The residential will conclude on Tuesday 24th October 2017 when we will depart in the morning in order to enjoy sightseeing in Shrewsbury before arriving back in Warrington for a coffee and cake reception at Bridgewater High School (Lower Site).

As a key member of Warrington Youth Orchestra it is essential that you attend this residential and support the Mayor’s Concert on Wednesday 25th October 2017 (evening – time to be confirmed). There is a small cost of £95 to cover the coach and full board accommodation. If this presents difficulty, please speak to Roy Green (chair) in complete confidence.

Please confirm your attendance on the residential to Sarah Hall – sarahhall68@talktalk.net

Payment will be due in two instalments:

1st July 2017 – £45

30th September 2017 – £50

(Cheques made payable to Warrington Youth Orchestra or make payment on-line).

The visit of Hilden Music School will culminate on Friday 27th October 2017 with a joint celebration at Thelwall British Legion, Stockport Road, Warrington WA4 2TB (evening – time to be confirmed).

In addition, throughout the week there will be opportunities to participate in sightseeing excursions with our friends from Hilden – details to follow.

Warrington and Hilden Twinning

Hilden is a small town in North West Germany near Düsseldorf, . The towns were formally twinned in 1968 (the relationship arising out of the stationing of the Lancashire regiment in the area).

Hilden Musikschule

Hilden Music School is a German Public Music School, being a foundation for the musical education of children, adolescents and adults. As such it supplements rather than replacing music instruction in school. Hilden’s symphony orchestra (which is made up of young people and adults) is called Sinfo.

WYO and Hilden Musikschule

The exchange between the Warrington & District Youth Orchestra and Musikschule Hilden began in 1978. It was established as part of the town twinning arrangements when it was suggested that there should be cultural links between the two towns.

Exchange trips

Musikschule Hilden and Warrington Youth Orchestra take it in turns to visit each other. The great success of recent trips has led to us dropping our scheduled ‘rest’ year and welcoming our friends from Hilden in 2017.
